Hello Canada!, page 43-44, notes that Lucasiewicz was imprisoned in the St Vincent de Paul Penetentiary for being involved in the Noranda strike. This was the 1934 zinc miners' strike in Rouyn-Noranda, in which the Communist-led Workers' Unity League organized a local of the Mine Workers' Union of Canada. The strikers held a picket line for 10 days before the local police, deputized "special constables," and the RCMP escorted in scabs and arrested 66 miners without bail, several of whom were sent to a federal penetentary for 2 years.
