Volunteer of the Week - Samuel Brown

The volunteer of the week is Samuel "Squeeky" Brown! Brown was an Irish-Canadian machinist with experience in the Winnipeg Rifles and the US Coast Guard. Born in Belfast, he lived in Winnipeg and Vancouver in Canada. Listing his political affiliation as "anti-fascist," Brown was active with the Single Man's Unemployed Association in Canada.

He arrived in Spain in August 1937, where he was an observer for the Mackenzie-Papineau Battalion, Company 3, Section 2, and served with the Lincolns. Brown was hit with shrapnel in his shoulder, thigh, and lost his left thumb. He returned to Canada in July 1938 and was later active with the Mac-Paps Veterans Association.
